Hon. Uju Lambasts Governors Over Request For FG To Sack Civil Servants At 50 and Above

Popular journalist, activist and woman leader in Imo State, Hon. Chika Uju has called out Governors asking the Federal Government of Nigeria to sack civil servants within the age bracket of 50years and above to refrain from that as she described the move as senseless and insensitive development.

Ambassador Uju advised the governors to be sensitive, focused and responsive toward the causes of Insecurity, poverty and unemployment across the country in a bid to find a lasting solution other than embarking on such an anti-people policy.

The respected media personality who questioned the welfare inputs of the governors on teachers in society stressed that “the issue of governors asking President Buhari to sack civil servants from 50 years of age is unconstitutional and highly condemnable” in a situation where most of the governors who are also public servants fall within same age range yet has refused to resign their positions as Chief Security Officers of their states.

“Then our governors and president should as well be sacked or removed as they are equally above 50 years”

“How much is their salary? It’s nothing compared to that of our governors, Senators, Representatives, House of Assembly members, President and their Deputies”

Ambassador Uju decried how ‘heartless and irresponsible’ the request of the governors who were elected to better the lots of the people would turn around halfway to be Instruments to avoidable deaths and sorrows of the electorate and citizens who they swore to serve and protect, noted that civil servants should be allowed to disengage from office or duties as stipulated in Nigeria constitution where their welfare are severely tampered with.

“The heart of man is wicked. The aged, senior citizens are well respected and recognized by their leaders in other countries but that of Nigeria is heartbreaking, no salary, no pension, no gratuity, no good amenities for them. This is wrong in its entirety”

“Do you know that most of the workers are widows and widowers and as such some do not have anyone to depend on”

“Some their parents are old and depend on their children. Some have families, relatives, children that still depend on the migrant salary they get from the job they executed in the office as a monthly salary”

“What can thirty thousand naira (#30,000) fetch for someone with large family members in a month?

She called on the governors to do the needful as regards prompt payment of salaries and pensions, protection of lives and property of citizens as well as provision of job and social amenities, adding that “insecurity, poverty and unemployment should be tackled by the governors and the Nigeria president and not making things more difficult for the led/electorates(poor masses)as the case may be”

“I call for security votes of all the Nigerian governors to be removed because they are not utilizing it. A lot of killings, kidnapping, maiming, raping and injustice in the land. So many police stations have been burnt down, officers killed, property lost”

“I am of the opinion that civil servants should be allowed to disengage from office or duties as stipulated in Nigeria constitution while urging those in authority to pay them their salaries as at when due”

“Pensioners should be equally paid to enable them to take care of themselves and families respectively”

“In all, our leaders should fear God and remember that there is tomorrow and also judgment after death”
