Gov. Makinde Stimulating Oyo State Economy Through Agric Revolution, Road Networks, Others

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state had declared last week in Ibadan that building institutions in his state would be his key legacies which to him would go a long way to stimulating the economy of the state.

Governor Makinde, an engineer is also the vice chairman of the Nigeria governors’ forum.

During an interactive session with the editors and media executives from the various parts of the country who also embarked on the facility tour of some of his projects last week, he had disclosed that his mind is filled with ‘what is best for the people of Oyo state’.

Considering the economic situation in Oyo state and its lean resources, the governor would anchor the state road map for sustainable development on the four pillars hence economy, education, health care and security.

He has thus made revolutions in agriculture and road networks which are aimed at stimulating the economy of Oyo state.

Governor Makinde has brought in private partners in other to achieve his targets in power, environment, road rehabilitation and construction and other sectors to enhance productivity.

Under his watch,Ibadan has become the second fastest growing city in Africa with regard to industrialization, urbanization and economic activities.

Governor Makinde’s administration has been recorded to make remarkable marks in road networks among which include Airport-Ajia-Ife road; Township road; Idi-Ape-Bashorun road; Akobo-Odigbo road; Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho road;Moniya-Iseyin-Oyo road.
There are also many feeder roads and spurs which his government has fixed under his popular Rural Access and Agricultural Markrting Projects (RAAMP).

His aim is to enhance the state economy, promote rural -urban linkages and his government’s effective engagement of the private partners has helped to a large extent.

In other to have quality and long lasting road projects in all parts of the state, the governor has made provisions of modern equipment to the Road Maintence Agency.

Governor Makinde’s gender balance in all decision making policies has also added value to his governance and he would clear the air in this aspect saying that his selection of some of the women in the key positions of his government was informed by their sterling qualities and administrative acumen which he maintained has been beneficial to the state.

Significant records have as well been made by his government in the areas of child right advocacy, youth development, sports, entrepreneurial trainings, environments, natural resouces, water supply and affordability.

He would not delay on policies that attract investments,energy,mineral resources, safe and efficient, mass transport schemes, innovative financial schemes.

Governor Makinde would for the purposes of delivering dividends of democracy engage contractors to fund and execute the projects and the state government would in turn refund them.

The governor would make challenges that any editor who would spot any pot hole on the long distanced Ibadan-Iseyin road would earn his gift.

Engr. Makinde would be proud to say that the Agricultural revolution in Oyo state under his administration has been adopted by the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture IITA and also absorbed in many countries.

Building institutions, a way of shaping the mindset of the people for the good of the people,the state and society,to him is what he would like to be remembered for.
The president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba who is also the editor of Vanguard newspaper would commend the Oyo governor for utilizing all available opportunities to boost the economy of the state.
