GOMEP Honours FCT Police Commissioner for Strengthening Security in Abuja
ABUJA – The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP) has commended the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Mohammed Sanusi, for what it described as the remarkable improvement in security and public safety across Abuja since he assumed office.

The commendation came during an unscheduled courtesy visit by the National President of GOMEP, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, accompanied by selected members of the association’s executive council, to the FCT Police Command headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Otiti lauded the Commissioner for his leadership and commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, businesses and visitors in the nation’s capital despite prevailing security challenges in parts of the country.

He said the FCT had remained relatively peaceful under Sanusi’s watch, attributing the development to intelligence-led policing, enhanced community engagement and improved collaboration between the police and the public.

Otiti also presented an award to the Commissioner on behalf of GOMEP in recognition of his contributions to public safety and effective policing.
According to him, the honour was also intended to encourage the police leadership to sustain ongoing efforts at strengthening security within the Federal Capital Territory.

He urged the Commissioner to continue implementing proactive policing strategies that would further enhance the safety of lives and property.
Earlier, Sanusi reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building a more professional, civil and people-oriented police service capable of effectively serving residents of the FCT and the country at large.

The Commissioner, who received the GOMEP delegation, also commended the association for promoting responsible journalism through fact-checking, balanced reporting and sustained coverage of the activities of security agencies across the country.

Responding to the award, Sanusi described the recognition as an encouragement to redouble the command’s efforts in combating crime and maintaining law and order in the FCT.

He assured residents and the business community that the FCT Police Command would remain steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property, while calling on members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information to aid effective policing.
