FUTO to Mark 32nd Convocation 7th December, …Establishes Recycle Waste Centre ||| NEWS CORNER

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO has concluded plans to hold her 32nd Convocation on Saturday, 7th December, 2019, at the Convocation Arena of the University.
Many persons especially distinguished personalities across the world are expected to grace the ceremony which promises to be memorable.
This was related by the Vice Chancellor of FUTO, Prof Francis Chukwuemeka Eze, during a briefing with newsmen, held at the Council/Senate Chamber, Senate Building of the University, on Tuesday.
Prof Eze explained that the Pre- Convocation activities include: Vice Chancellor’s Pre- Convocation Press Briefing and Tour of Waste Recycling Center on Tuesday, Ecumenical Service to be held at the 1000 Capacity Hall of Excellence, FUTO, on Wednesday sequeled to Tree- Planting at selected Sites at FUTO and Inspection of Projects, on Thursday, on Friday, 32nd is the Convocation Lecture holding at the 1000 Capacity Hall of Excellence, FUTO.
Just as Students’ Research and Innovation Exposition Show, Admission to First Degrees, Conferment of Higher Degrees and Award of Prizes holds at the Convocation Arena, FUTO, on Saturday, being the grand finale of the Convocation.
The 7th Vice Chancellor of FUTO, who emphasized that the Convocation Lecture would be delivered by Prof Ndubuisi Ekekwe who is an alumus of the prestigious institution, identified the topic of the lecture as: The Innovators- Unlocking Abundance in Nations for the Rise of All, assessing Prof Ekekwe as a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum and also a Selection Board Member of the $100 Million Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program, pointing out that Ekekwe will be the first alumnus to deliver a Convocation Lecture at FUTO.
Prof Eze informed that the University shall “award First Degrees and Higher Degrees to a total of 2,848 graduates, 294 of this number is for Postgraduate Degrees and Diploma, while 2554 is for First Degrees”, with First Class, 867 Second Class Upper, 1361 Second Class Lower, 259, Third Class and 5 Pass with 294 graduating in Higher Degrees: Masters and Doctorate Degrees.
Cheerfully, the FUTO Vice Chancellor pronounced a vibrant graduand, Mr Oguchienti Somtochukwu Marcel of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering who got CGPA of 4.90, as the best graduating student for the Class of 2018/2019 graduating students while thanking the graduating students and teachers for making the University proud and indulged them to be worthy ambassadors of FUTO.

Harping that the Federal University of Technology under his leadership has gained a lot in terms of quality of teaching, effective research and painstaking innovation, Prof Eze stated that “the University through its Environment and Waste Management Committee in collaboration with the Department of Polymer, Textile Engineering and Materials and Metallurgical Engineering had established a Mini Recycling Center that converts waste into saleable and useful products”.
The Vice Chancellor and the University Management Team who conducted journalists round the Waste Recycling Center, FUTO, stressed that polythene waste materials are being recycled into nylon bags, hangers, plastic cups, key -holders, used table water/soft drink plastics bottle are shredded into flakes that are either exported as raw materials or used for production of rugs, pullovers, pen, pet bottles for chemicals, used papers are shredded and recycled into toilet rolls and packaging papers and others, seeking for financial help from financially buoyant individuals to encourage the University advance the recycling business to boost economy and create employment.
He said herders could only be prevented from invading FUTO with their cows when the University Community is perimeterlly fenced.
