FG’s Policy Declaring IPOB As Security Risk Still In Force
The Federal Government of Nigeria appears to be glued to her strong policy on the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) declaring it as security risk going by the recent raids carried out in an Anambra community.
The declaration of IPOB as security risk that was made by the previous administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari re- manifested last week with the invasions and raids by the security operatives in Umuchu community in Aguata local government area, Anambra state at the weekend which was reported to lead to the escape of some youths in the community.
In the course of investigations made by some journalists after the security operations in the area, a senior security personnel who spoke on grounds of anonymity disclosed to the media that the Federal Government under the current leadership of President, Alhaji Ahmed Tinubu is out to clamp down on the IPOB members, a clear indication that the FG still maintains her policy on IPOB as a proscribed organisation.
It should be recalled that the former President Buhari had during his administration declared IPOB as a security risk which sparked controversies and was reported to entail the arrest and prosecutions of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and several other members some of who have died in detention.
Last week at Umuchu community in Aguata local government area, Anambra state there were ceasless raids by the security operatives in search of IPOB members some of which led to the escape of some youths in the area for their dear lives.
Among the youths that had escaped during the raids according to community sources include one Nzubechukwu Nathaniel Okafor who they described as a responsible and peaceful youth leader and who is suspected to be the third in command of the IPOB in that zone and others whose names were given as Chinedu Okoroafor; Dominic Okereke; Nwabueze Ugoeze; Kingsley Umeh, suspected as a second in command in their zone.

Revelations emerged that since after a sudden invasion of the family house of Nzubechukwu Okafor in that community that were trailed by sporadic shootings, he was reported to escape from the scene after he was reported to return home after the clash between the security operatives and the IPOB members at Orlu, Imo state.
Nzubechukwu Okafor was reported to be declared wanted by the security operatives which was said to be why his home was raided by them before he escaped.
It should be recalled that a mega Igbo peaceful protests organised by the IPOB which took place in Orlu in 2023 that sparked their clash with the security operatives resulting to loss of lives and property became a major point of IPOB’s clamp down by the Federal Government.
Many youths had joined the IPOB especially from the southern part of Nigeria as it is the umbrella being used to agitate for the Biafran Nation out of Nigeria.
As at press time, there were no clear reports from the Nigerian security agencies about the raids of some communities and invasion of homes carried out at interval by their operatives.
