David de Gea Annoyed With Man Utd’s Recent Performances, Claims Ander Herrera
David de Gea has been annoyed with Manchester United’s defensive sloppiness since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho, according to teammate Ander Herrera.
The Norwegian’s appointment as interim manager has breathed new life into United’s season and after a fourth win in succession at Newcastle, hopes of Champions League qualification via a fourth place finish in the Premier League have been restored.
United have scored 14 goals in the four matches Solskjaer has taken charge of with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba, in particular, transformed from the confidence starved players they appeared to be under Mourinho.
Despite boasting a 100% start to his tenure, De Gea had been frusrated by an inability to keep a clean sheet, an issue that was rectified at St James’ Park after goals from Romelu Lukaku and Rahsford secured a 2-0 win.
‘It was very important for David [ to keep a clean sheet], said Herrera.
‘We wanted to make David happy because he was a little bit disappointed the last games. I had to cope with him after, killing my mind, telling me that he wanted a clean sheet!’
United are now just six points behind Chelsea and face Tottenham a week on Sunday in what will represent an acid test of their progress under Solskjaer who is warming to the idea of taking the job on a permanent basis.
He said: ‘I don’t want to (leave) – of course I don’t. It’s such a great bunch of players, fantastic atmosphere, but it’s the next game, it’s the next game.
‘I’m doing my job as long as I’m here. If you win four you can win another four with this club. ‘That’s the challenge, that’s the standard we know. That used to be the challenge from the gaffer (Sir Alex Ferguson).’
