Constitute Commission of Inquiry to Unravel Killers of Otulu Youths, NYCN Urges Govt
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), a supreme youth body in Imo State, has urged the Imo State Government led by Governor Hope Uzodimma to set up a commission of inquiry to quickly unravel the killers of youths of Otulu.
Regrettably, 14 youths were gruesomely killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen while reportedly returning from a traditional wedding ceremony of one Chijioke Okezuonu Nnanna, on 17th July, 2022, at Otulu, Awo Omamma, Oru East Local Government Area, Imo State.
The council made the urge through its Imo State chapter chairman, Barr. Comr. Ezinwanne Chimuanya Udoka, in a statement, signed and made available to the media in Owerri, on Monday.
Udoka, without mincing words, asked the government to hasten up with thorough investigation to evenly unfold, fish out and persecute those who killed the promising Imo youths whose death devastates their families, loved ones and the state at large.
Condemning the massacre, the council frowned that “the gruesome killing was a calculated genocide, a rude shock, which must not be swept under the carpet. Hence NYCN urges the Imo State Government to set up a commission of inquiry to unravel the perpetrators of the genocide and make them bluntly face the law of the state. Let there be a stop to the killing of innocent people across the state. Peace should always be allowed to take preeminence in our society, for with peace development thrives, poverty and suffering which are being experienced today, become things of the past in the state. Government should also meet its responsibility of providing functional regular social amenities that will enable youths to engage in meaningful ventures”.
As a result, Udoka called on Imo youths home and abroad to continue to be law-abiding, shun criminality, and engage in productive activities to defeat boredom to enjoy comfort, internal security, and economic prosperity.
