2026 World Environment Day: MD EWAMAC, Samolsvatov Charges Imolites to support the Initiative

The Managing Consultant and the Group Managing Director Eastern Waste Management Company (EWAMAC) Mr Nick Samolsvatov has urged the people of the state to support the Initiative of keeping the environment clean as he calls on the proper disposal of waste for a healthier living.

Mr Samolsvatov gave the charge on the occasion of the 2026 World Environment Day with the theme ” Climate Action” held at the Consumer Protection Council office, Owerri.

Speaking to Journalists shortly after the event, the MD harped, on the need to arrange their waste in a proper manner and should not dispose it anyhow or litter it on the road also, try as much as they can to maintain the environment and always keep it clean.

On the issue of the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in some parts of the city he reiterated, that the management is trying their best to ensure that they refuse are properly disposed in the proper and designated place stressing, than to maintain a clean environment is not what will be done at once, but a gradual process.

Still speaking, the EWAMAC boss, asserted that maintaining a clean environment should not be left only in the hands of government but rather, it should be a collective exercise as it concerns all and sundry hence, the need for all hands to be on deck to achieve the goal of a clean environment.

Mr Salmosvatov however, thanked the state governor, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodinma for his initiative in ensuring that Imo State becomes the cleanest state in Nigeria adding, that the management is working towards that.

Earlier in his address, the Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Sanitation Hon Mike Emenike noted, that the state is prepared to coperate with the global vision on environmental protection and remained committed to initiatives that advance climate resilience as well as sustainable management.

The Commissioner however, enjoined the young people as future custodian of the environment to embrace innovation, environmental education and sustainable lifestyle that promotes conservation emphasizing, that under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodinma, the ministry is committed to building a cleaner, safer as well as climate- resilient state.

Hon Emenike thereby, call on Imo residents to adopt environmentally, friendly practices such as proper waste disposable, tree planting, avoidance of bush burning, reduction of plastic pollution, protection of water bodies among others
