The Ukwuinyi Women Nkwerre Association (UKWNA) on Friday, January 2, 2026 held a glamorous fundraising ceremony aimed at raising ₦500 million for the construction of an ultramodern event centre, purchase of a branded association bus, and the establishment of a youth empowerment fund.

The grand event, held at Ukwuinyi Village Square with presentation of awards of Excellence to Ninety-Two (92) distinguished personalities, attracted prominent sons and daughters of Nkwerre from within Nigeria and the diaspora as well as traditional rulers, political leaders, captains of industry and members of various women organizations across the State.

Addressing guests, the President of the Association, Ambassador Chika Uju (Onodugo) said the project was born out of the desire to create sustainable development opportunities for women and youths in Nkwerre, noting that the additional community hall project was designed to serve as a meeting and training facility for women and youths.

“While the ultramodern event centre will generate revenue for our association, the new community hall will be a space for skills training, seminars, health talks and leadership development programmes,” she said.
She noted that the youth empowerment fund would provide vocational training support, starter grants and mentorship opportunities for young people, while the proposed association bus would enhance mobility during outreach and community programmes.

Ambassador Uju while highlighting her administration’s scorecards which includes formally registering the Association as a legal entity with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) upon assumption as well as acquiring two plots of land for the proposed Ultramodern Event Centre and maintaining a robust cordial relationship with the Men association among others across boards, expressed deep gratitude to Ukwuinyi Women for entrusting her with the leadership of the association.

“However, our greatest achievement is that we have within this period maintained a very robust cordial relationship with our husbands, even when conflict is inevitable among human existence because without peace we can not achieve nothing”
“At this point, I want to say a very very big thank you to the entire Ukwuinyi Men through the able President General (PG) Sir Kenneth Nwaneri and appeal for your continuous cooperation and support.
The Chairman Planning Committee, Lolo Oluchi Nwaneri praised the women for their foresight and determination, saying the projects were initiated to not only empower the youths and women but leave lasting legacies for future generations.

“These are not just buildings; they are investments in the people of Nkwerre. Every well-meaning son and daughter of this land should support this cause,” she remarked.
The Youth Leader of Ukwuinyi Village, Comrade Chinasa Joel Nwosu, lauded Ukwuinyi women for their resounding projects which have over time impacted the economic and physical development of the locality
“I commend the women. For them to have come up with this idea, for the betterment of the youths in particular and village at large, it shows they are mother’s indeed who always look out for their own”

“The leadership of Ukwuinyi Women Association led by Ambassador Chika Uju has been very wonderful. Ambassador Uju has taken the association to another level as this project is one of a kind”
The Publicity Chairman of the occasion, Mrs Chinasa Uzoma while expressing gratitude to the women and guests for their impacts, urged wealthy indigenes and stakeholders to partner with the association to ensure timely completion of the projects.
In their goodwill messages, the home branch of Ukwuinyi Women Association led by Golden Lady Ego Dike among others, roundly expressed satisfaction on the leadership of the President General Ukwuinyi Village, Ambassador Chika Uju and prayed God to continue to lead her.

The ceremony featured cultural performances, unveiling of architectural designs of the proposed structures, and presentation of donations by individuals, families and corporate organisations.
