Tiwa Savage, Imafidon listed in BBC 100 influential women’s list

The British Broadcasting Corporation has revealed its 100 inspirational and innovative women for 2017.

Among the phenomenal women are Nigeria’s music diva, Tiwa Savage; and computing child prodigy, Anne-Marie Imafidon.

The selected women are said to have tackled some of the biggest problems facing women around the world.

According to the BBC post, the women will be coming together in four teams, where they will share their experiences and create innovative ways  to tackle four broad challenges:

  • The glass ceiling – #Teamlead
  • Female illiteracy – #Teamread
  • Street harassment – #Teamgo
  • Sexism in sport – #Teamplay

Other Africans who made the list are: Adelle Onyango (Kenya); Anita Nderu (Kenya); Chaima Lahsini (Morroco); Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf (Liberia); Marieme Jamme (Senegal); Naomi Mwaura (Kenya); and Talent Jumo (Zimbabwe).

Tiwa Savage is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and a performer, graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Kent, did backup vocals for George Michael at the age of 16 and others. She currently has a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Anne-Marie Imafidon is Nigerian-born British computing, mathematics and language child prodigy who founded and became the CEO of Stemettes in 2013, a social enterprise promoting women in STEM careers, and was honoured with an MBE in 2016.
