SUPER EAGLES PROMISE BETTER PERFOMANCE, SAYS THEIR DEFEAT IS A WAKE UP CALL
FROM JOHN NWOGU IN OWERRI.
Super Eagles players say their Saturday two zero defeat by South Africa in the 2019 Nations Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium is a wake up call and not a death sentence.
Sports Correspondent, John Nwaogu reported that the players who spoke after the match said the 2019 Nations Cup qualifier was still within reach for the team adding that the defeat by South Africa was only the first of a six – match qualifying campaign.
They said it was better to lose to South Africa in the Nations Cup qualifier than to go down to Cameroun in a world cup qualifier slated for Uyo in the 27th August this year.
The team will face Seychelles in its Group E next AFCON qualifying games in March next year.
The Super Eagles are now third on the table behind South Africa and Libya.
In other qualifying matches, Guinea defeated Ivory Coast by three goals to two while Libya thrashed Seychelles five-one
Zambia suffered a zero – one defeat to Mozambique, the same result Cameroun triumphed over Morocco.
Guinea Bissau also had a one – nil win over Namibia while Sierra Leone defeated Kenya by two goals to one.
Tunisia pipped Egypt one – nil, the same result Algeria had over Togo.
Zimbabwe humbled Liberia three – nil in their encounter.
