SCIN Launches Awareness, Advocacy Campaign Against Coronavirus …seeks support from individuals, corporate entities

South -East Coronavirus Intervention Network, SCIN, has launched awareness and advocacy campaign to sensitize the people of South- East on measures to prevent Coronavirus Pandemic which is ravaging the global community with social, economic and religious activities dwindling.

Launching the sensitisation campaign in Owerri on Tuesday which is tagged “Strengthening Awareness of Covid-19 in South East, the Coordinator of SCIN, Nze Meekam K. Mgbenwelu, explained that SCIN comprises of two leading Technology and Innovation focused organizations such as Nzukolabs and Learn-Factory with Offices in Enugu, Imo and Abia States.

He noted that SCIN is collaborating to sensitize rural communities across South East on ways to help to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus in the region.

Mgbenwelu who added that SCIN is fully committed to ensure that people of South East especially those at the rural areas are well informed to help them ward off Coronavirus to live healthy, remarked that “SCIN, with support from Ford Foundation and leveraging on the communication protocols of NCDC, has today, 19th of May, 2020, launched a sustained awareness and advocacy campaign in South East”.

SCIN regretted that poor information about the virus in the South East particularly at the rural communities has been a big challenge to the fight against Covid-19 hence SCIN’s target on raising awareness and advocacy campaign.

Nze Mgbenwelu highlighted that Covid-19 which started in December, 2019, in Wuhan City, China, can be prevented through good hygiene, thorough hand washing, regular cleaning and disinfecting the environment, observing social distancing, using face mask, cough and sneezing etiquette, etc.

Mgbenwelu while stating that Covid-19 does not respect boundaries, religion, country, race, continent or class because it can infect any person, outlined that SCIN has strategy to use a range of channels to reach out to people with needed information as jingles, in local dialects, social media, community engagements, working with traditional rulers and town-criers to help them to stay safe and healthy at all times.

He maintained that SCIN hopes to further engage dedicated volunteers in each of the region who are indigenes or living at the communities for easy information delivery against Covid-19.

Emphasizing that prevention of Coronavirus via adequate awareness and advocacy campaign is the primary role of South East Coronavirus Intervention Network, Chibueze Ukaegbu I, CEO, LearnFactory Nigeria, thanked NCDC and Ford Foundation for their effective preventive information and support to combating Coronavirus Pandemic especially to rural dwellers.
