New State Creation: Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma LGA Chairmen Nwodu, Ndukwe Align With Gov Hope Uzodinma Proposal

The South East zonal stakeholders/ public hearing for the review of 1999 constitution for Imo and Abia was held on the 19th July 2025 at Eze Imo Palace Owerri, Imo.
The programme was presided by the Deputy Speaker Federal House of Representatives Rt. Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and witnessed by committee members on constitution review, Sen. Hope Uzodinma; Governor of Imo state, Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu , Sen. Osita Izunaso, labour leaders, civil society group, youth organizations among other notable groups.
The session provided ample opportunity for stakeholders and general public to make their submission on proposed review of 1999 constitution in fairness and equity.


Speaking with Journalists, the Chairman of Ehime Mbano local government, Hon. Uche Nwodu described the event as a welcome development, stressing that it has given opportunity for the people to observe and contribute as it concerns the amendment of 1999 constitution for the benefit of the masses.
According to him, “I want to align myself with the submission of His Excellency, our Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, he spoke the mind of Imo people, all the areas he pointed out, if they can be reviewed, I believe Nigeria and south East in particular will be a better place.

“In the creation of state, Southeast is shortchanged, while the governor is proposing for additional two states to correct the imbalance. He also spoke about rotational Presidency, if it can be implemented, it will solve the problem of marginalization, insecurity and as well foster rapid development in every region”, he concluded.
Also speaking, Prince Obioha Ndukwe, Chairman of Ihitte Uboma local government reiterated that the new state creation in South East zone has been much anticipated, adding that he is glad that the governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma took the bold step by proposing for the actualization.
He also expressed optimism that the agenda will be achieved in no distant time hence the motion has been moved stressing that governor Hope Uzodinma as the leader of South East governor’s forum has been making frantic effort in ensuring that South East is queued into the national grid.
Hon. Obioha Ndukwe further enjoined stakeholders and leaders from south east zone to support governor Hope Uzodinma to actualize the proposal for the creation of two new states which he said has been long over due.
