Man-United coach Ole Solskjaer’s first press conference (full gist).
Newly appointed Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he remains in contact with club legend Sir Alex Ferguson as he spoke in his first press conference since taking the job.
The former striker was appointed to replace Jose Mourinho until the end of the season and will make his debut in the dugout against his former club, Cardiff City, on Saturday.
Solskjaer scored the winning goal in the Champions League final in 1999 and featured heavily in a historic treble that year.
“I have already spoken with Sir Alex Ferguson because there is nobody who can give me better advice,” he revealed.
“He has been my mentor but I didn’t understand early on he’d be my mentor.”
After 11 years at the club as a player and coach, he didn’t doubt in taking the job.
“When you get a job offer like this and they ask you to sign for six months you say, ‘yes, I’m happy to help’,” he admitted
Solskjaer will be joined by Ferguson’s former first team coach Mike Phelan in his backroom staff.
