Ikeduru Indigenes Unite in One Voice …As General Ihekire Emerges Leader/Spokesman
ThankGod Emeh…
The people of Ikeduru local government area of Imo state have set the ball rolling to mitigate all forms of underdevelopment, and infrastructural decay, as well as to uphold sound moral and cultural values in the locality by uniting to speak with one voice, under one emerging umbrella.
The move, as adjudged by elder statesmen in the area, is aimed at restoring the lost glory of Ikeduru local government area and making it great across boards to be a choice destination to reckon with in the state and beyond.
“Fortunately, Ikeduru is a homogeneous local government area because it has the unique feature of being, at the same time, both a clan and also as a local government.
This makes it easy to harmonize the cultural and political voices of the clan. In spite of this advantage, Ikeduru seems to lack one strong voice to attract infrastructure and crucial government patronage”
Addressing traditional rulers, and indigenes at a Think-tank get-together last weekend, the Convener, Major Gen. CRU Ihekire rtd OMC (Rwanda) JP stressed that the cardinal point of the meeting was for everyone to brainstorm on ways to move the community forward for a better tomorrow, especially making the area more relevant in the scheme of things across the state.
Gen. Ihekire noted that since all the cultural and social organisations in Ikeduru desire the same good for Ikeduru that, it is better for this common desire to be coordinated into a common purpose and one voice with which to seek government investment and patronage, noting that Ikeduru needs to speak up with one voice in order to achieve and attract economic progress and social benefits from the federal and state governments being a land endowed with resources and opportunities.
“It is my honest conviction that Ikeduru needs to speak with one voice in order to achieve
the economic progress and social benefits from the present and future governments of Imo State, which is what all of us desire.
He hailed the traditional rulers in the locality for their sacrifices in making sure peace reigns.
“The aim of the meeting was to ensure that Ikeduru speaks with one voice in order to support and complement the efforts of the State Government and Ikeduru Local Government in the development of Ikeduru”
According to the communique, issued at the end of the get-together by the traditional rulers across Ikeduru, members of Odinma Ikeduru Cultural Organization, Ikeduru Country Club, Ikeduru Renaissance Club of Nigeria, Ikeduru Community Youth Organization, Ikeduru Development Association, and Ikeduru Patriotic Union among other prominent individuals, resolved that the leaders of various associations in Ikeduru, should after consultations with traditional rulers form a steering committee to ensure that a united body with one voice is actualized.
According to the communique, people at the event unanimously resolved that Maj. Gen. CRU Ihekire rtd OMC (Rwanda) JP, Ugwumba Ikeduru, would lead the emerging umbrella organization, noting that the umbrella body would squarely address the developmental challenges of Ikeduru, including bad roads and youth unemployment by setting up an Ikeduru Development Committee.
The communique signatories include HRH Eze Dr. Marcel O Egemonu (Ebi of Ebikoro, Uzoagba Ikeduru), HRH Eze Geo Anika, KSC (Traditional Ruler of Atta Ancient Kingdom Ikeduru), HRH Eze Umunnakwe I. Alaribe (EzeOha III Amakohia Ikeduru), Rev. Fr. Prof. Marcellinus Izuchukwu Onyeocha (Ikeduru Patriotic Union), Sir Chief Foster Uwakwe (President, Ikeduru Renaissance Club of Nigeria), Elder Chief Davis Ihemdavis Ihemtuge (President, Odinma Ikeduru Cultural Association), Chief Jude Oparah
(President, Ikeduru Country Club), Dr. Emeka Ukaegbu (Secretary, Ikeduru Development Association), Comrade Martin Ogbuji Leader (Ikeduru Community Youths Association).
