By ThankGod Emeh…
Renowned activist, media guru and woman leader of the Young Progressives Party, YPP in Imo State, Ambassador Chika Uju has sympathized with flood victims across the country especially people living in Imo State over their loss of loved ones, property and valuables worth billions of naira while calling on Stakeholders across the Country to come to people’s aid.
Ambassador Uju who appreciated the State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma for a timely donation to affected persons and communities in the State, recalled how she and her family suffered same flood devastation in 2017 at Ikenegbu Extension Owerri while calling on the government to create a ministry or department that will fashion out lasting solutions to Flood in the State.
“I feel for those that lost their beloved people, mostly at Anambra State where family of six died as a result of flood”
“Those that lost their properties, are not left out. May God send a destiny helper to them”
She said, “I was a victim of it on 21st September 2017 at Ikenegbu Extension Owerri”
“I appreciate governor’s donation to the victims or the communities affected but government should create a ministry or department that will see or care for such situations. Bank Account should be open for individuals or organizations that wish to help or assist them”, she advised.
The dogged activist, Ambassador Uju who pointed out major causes of flood in the State to include lack of good drainage systems, poor sanitation exercise to distill water runways, and indiscriminate dumping of waste material across the streets as well as bad building construction on drainage areas by Landlords among others, stated that if nothing is seriously done to arrest the ugly situation, more harm would befall the State.
“Our drainage should be cleared hence monthly exercise or cleanup of our environment is necessary”
“Dumping of waste should be prohibited and those found in such actions or cases should be prosecuted”
She called on Landlords to put on human faces in erecting structures by putting drainage system in place to save lives of the tenants as well as their collective property.
“Landlord(s) should also help out in this exercise. Let there be sanity in our environment”, Ambassador Uju concluded.
