Enyimba Eyes Strong Finish, Seeks To Extend Dominance Over Kwara UTD In Lagos

As the curtain gradually falls on the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season with just two games left to play, nine time champions, Enyimba FC are in Lagos with the mission to end the campaign on a high, restore pride, and finish with momentum worthy of the People’s Elephant.

That mission continues on Sunday in Lagos when they confront Kwara United in a potentially explosive Matchday 37 clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

With Kwara United currently playing their home matches in Lagos following their banishment from Ilorin, the fixture presents an unusual atmosphere, but one that Enyimba are prepared to exploit as they hunt for maximum points.

Currently sitting 11th on the NPFL table with 46 points, Enyimba understands the importance of finishing the season strongly, not just for pride, but for confidence and stability ahead of the next campaign.

Since 2009, Enyimba have maintained clear dominance over the Harmony Boys, winning 14 of the 25 meetings between both clubs. Kwara United have managed eight victories, while three encounters ended in stalemates, a head-to-head record that gives the Aba landlords psychological advantage ahead of Sunday’s battle, including result of the reverse fixture this season in Aba that ended 3-1 in the visitors favour.

However, with the fight to avoid relegation still raging across the league, both sides are expected to approach the contest with desperation and caution, setting the stage for a fierce and entertaining showdown.

Coach Emmanuel Deutsch Gustavo and his Enyimba squad are aware that Kwara United will come with everything, but the People’s Elephant are equally motivated, believing that a strong end to the season is non negotiable.

There is good news for the Aba side as center back, Moses Okoh has returned to full fitness and is available for selection, boosting Enyimba’s defensive options at a crucial stage of the season.

But Enyimba they landed in Lagos with a few notable absentees. Defenders Afolayan Peters and Emeka Onyema will miss the encounter, while team captain Kalu Nweke, a former Kwara United midfielder, is also ruled out alongside full back, Paul Odeh.

Despite those setbacks, confidence remains high in the Enyimba camp, with the players eager to prove depth, character and resilience as the season approaches its final bend.
With only two matches left to define their campaign, the People’s Elephant are determined to roar and extend their dominance over Kwara United, and secure a result that keeps their finishing push alive.
